Braves Acquire Star Catcher Murphy

Three-Way Deal Shakes Up MLB Landscape

Atlanta Braves Bolster Catching Corps

The Atlanta Braves have made a major move in their quest for a World Series title. The team has acquired All-Star catcher Sean Murphy from the Oakland Athletics in a three-way trade that also sent catcher William Contreras to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Braves also received outfielder Manny PiƱa from the Brewers in the deal.

Murphy is a 28-year-old catcher who has been one of the best players at his position in recent years. He is a two-time Gold Glove winner and two-time All-Star. Murphy is also a solid hitter, with a career batting average of .253 and an OPS of .780.

The Braves have been in need of a catcher since Brian McCann left the team after the 2019 season. Travis d'Arnaud has been the team's primary catcher the past two seasons, but he is entering the final year of his contract and is not considered a long-term solution. Murphy gives the Braves a young, talented catcher who can play defense and hit the ball.

The trade is a major win for the Braves. They have acquired one of the best catchers in the game and they did it without giving up any of their top prospects. Murphy is a major upgrade over Contreras and should help the Braves compete for a World Series title in 2023.
